木製ドア・建具・家具のトータルサプライヤーである阿部興業の新宿本社1階のインテリアデザインを担当。「ABE galerie_TOKYO」は「画廊」をコンセプトに計画され、組子・金箔・漆などの伝統的な工芸技術を応用して制作した木製ドアと共に、障害をお持ちのアーティストたちの絵画を展示する空間となっている。
木製ドア、絵画の各作品の間には仕切りとなる袖壁を計画。左官材で仕上げた袖壁は円弧を描いて天井の下がり壁とつなげ、視界に入る情報を制限することにより、作品1点1点に集中して鑑賞できる仕掛けとした。また、この仕切りをファサードと並行に5枚並べ、奥の壁面をミラー仕上げにすることで空間全体に連続感と伸びやかさを与えている。展示空間の床には壁面と同じ左官材で仕上げたタイルを採用。職人により丁寧に施された左官仕上げは、「手仕事」が生み出す豊かさを大切にするブランドの理念を反映したものとなっている。
「個」として強さのある各作品にフォーカスした場であると共に、それが集まった「集合」としての画廊にアイデンティティを同時に持たせることを目指した。

We were responsible for the interior design of the first-floor space at the Abe’s Shinjuku office, a total supplier of wooden doors, architectural fixtures, and furniture. “ABE Galerie TOKYO” was conceived with the concept of an art gallery, featuring wood doors crafted using traditional techniques such as kumiko latticework, gold leaf, and urushi lacquer, presented alongside paintings by artists with disabilities.
Wing walls are placed between each wooden door and painting to serve as partitions. Finished with plaster, each wing wall arcs upward to connects with the soffit wall, intentionally limiting the amount of visual information and encouraging visitors to focus on each work. Five of these partitions are arranged parallel to the façade, and the end wall features a mirror surface, creating a sense of continuity and expansiveness. The floor of the exhibition space is covered with tiles finished in the same plaster material used on the walls. The meticulous workmanship of the plaster finish reflects the brand’s philosophy of valuing the richness that comes from handwork.
The aim was not only to highlight the strong individuality of each work, but also to give the gallery its own identity as a collective whole.
