伝統的な工芸技法や材料を基点としながら、現代アートの表現力、コンセプトを併せ持つ10人のアーティストの作品を展示する展覧会「工芸的美しさの行方」にて、会場設計を担当。 2024年7月の東京展に続き、2024年11月に開催された京都展は800年以上の歴史をもつ京都最古の禅寺建仁寺の大書院が舞台となった。
様々な大きさの作品が展示されることから、展示什器にはモジュール化した4種類のパーツの組合せで形状や大きさを変えられるオリジナルのシステムを採用。フレームパーツは16mmのスチール角パイプをカットし、精度の高い溶接技術を用いて製作している。また、耐摩耗性に優れたエンジニアリングプラスチックにて特注製作したジョイントの採用により、繰り返し組み替えができる仕組みとなっている。
会場となった建仁寺大書院は枯山水の中庭に面した開放的な場所であることから、襖をはずした大きな空間の中に、内部と外部との連続性を意識して作品の配置を行なった。統一感のある軽やかなフレームの什器が、歴史ある空間と作品の魅力を同時に引き立てることを目指した。

The exhibition “The Future of Artisanal Beauty” brought together the works of 10 artists who seamlessly integrate traditional craft techniques and materials with the expressive concepts of contemporary art. We designed the venue for its Kyoto edition held in November 2024 at the Oshoin hall of Kennin-ji, Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple, renowned for its 800-year history.
Given the diverse sizes of the artworks, we employed our original modular display fixtures. This system, featuring four modules, can be combined to reconfigure displays of various shapes and sizes. The frames, made of 16mm steel square pipes, are cut and welded with high precision. The joints are custom-made in engineering-grade plastic with excellent wear resistance, enabling repeated assembly and disassembly.
Kennin-ji’s Oshoin hall opens onto a serene, dry landscape garden. The fusuma -sliding doors- were removed to create an ample, continuous space, where the artworks were arranged with indoor-outdoor continuity in mind. The lightness and unity of the display fixtures not only complemented the historic venue but also the artworks, enhancing their beauty in perfect harmony.
